Assignment Week #3

For the project and site you have completed your climate analysis on, I want you to identify three building strategies which are responsive to the climate of your site. For each strategy, provide a brief description of the strategy, including written narrative and or sketches, as appropriate. Explain why you feel the strategy is appropriate, and outline the specific benefits this strategy may bring to the project.

Assignment Week #2

For the architectural project you selected last assignment, compile a climate analysis. If you can’t find your precise location, you can choose a location that is at approximately the same latitude and has a similar climate.

Compile the following information:

  • A sunpath diagram for your site (you can use the website http://solardat.uoregon.edu/PolarSunChartProgram.html or an appropriate sunpath diagram from Appendix A of Lechner)
  • A wind rose diagram
  • A qualitative description of the climate
  • The annual range of temperature and relative humidity
  • The annual wind speeds
  • The annual % sunshine
  • The annual heating and cooling degree-day
  • A bioclimatic chart for your project site (download Climate Consultant 3 from http:// http://www2.aud.ucla.edu/energy-design-tools/ , create one by hand using Part 18 of Sun Wind & Light, or find the appropriate bioclimatic chart from Appendix A of Lechner)

Provide a brief description of the site, including any microclimate effects.

Compile the information into a single document.
